Book Review - Diary of a Teenage Jewel Thief - Rosie Somers

There is just something about a socially awkward heroine...

Add in the fact that she's been trained at a young age to be a jewel thief... fascinating.

We start off in the middle of a musesum jewelry heist meant to help Marisol and her mother start over.  It quickly goes south when Petrov Rosinsky and his men hijack their burglary.

With this book you have to have some suspension of belief.

Cut to Marisol's first day at her sixth high school in three years - yup, our jewel thief is a high school junior!

Before she even makes it into the school she's stopped by Nicky and graces us, Nicky, Will, and an unnamed third with her awkwardness... starting with her insta-crush on Will.

Turns out he feels the same, literally pushing a guy out of a seat in front of him in their shared Pre-Cal class... all so Marisol would sit in front of him.

Whatever he's feeling must be strong enough to overlook the back and forth ways that Marisol reacts around him.  Or he was just really impressed when he witnessed her making a jimmy out of a coke can and breaking into her locker. (He had "accidentally" grabbed her English folder and went to return it.)

So why did Will focus so quickly on Marisol? What happened to the jewels at the beginning of the story? Does Petrov ever find Marisol and her mother?  What is really the significance of the title?

Well, dear readers, you'll just have to read Diary of a Teenage Jewel Thief

My star rating? 4 or 4.5 stars.  Why? I was really drawn in when I started reading it, and I had to put it down to get some sleep after reading until 2 A.M.!   However, I had trouble picking it back up - and when I did I was drawn right back it.  But in that between period I had too many questions.

Why is Will so intent on Marisol? (You find out at the end.) What happened to the jewelry from the heist.

And later, when I started reading again, a few others that would involve serious spoilers.

Rosie Somers' writing style is great. Nice flow. Awesome descriptions.

But I still have too many questions.  I might need to dig to see if there's a sequel in the works.
